Forty-two ‘digital trainees’ will be accompanying several departments of BNP Paribas Fortis toward their transition into digital. Ciaran Mcewan is one these ‘digital trainees’.
To instill change in the whole organization, BNP Paribas Fortis needs young people with the right skills and digital mindset. Therefore, the bank has launched a Digital Traineeship in partnership with ORMIT. This programme aims to prepare highly talented young professionals to become future managers. It is built around three main assignments and lasts 18 months; at the end they will get the opportunity to get a long term contract at BNP Paribas Fortis.
In September 2015, Ciaran McEwan has graduated in General Management at the Louvain School of Management (UCL). “This ORMIT traineeship has directly drawn my attention. It focusses on our personal development and helps us to constantly improve. All this in a professional environment. “
His new home? PAY
“In my case, this professional environment is the domain PAY of the bank. My first assignment takes place in the IT department. The next ones will be in two other functions, but still within the domain PAY. For me, it is a great way to discover the bank and understand the domain PAY. In parallel, the ORMIT programme offers trainings to get insight on yourself as well as understand and discover where your greatest potential lies. “When I finished my studies, I was not considering to enter the banking sector. I thought I would work in a SME or something like that. However, I noticed very quickly that BNP Paribas Fortis was driven with a real willingness to change. I thought that it would be an excellent opportunity to contribute to the digital revolution of a major bank. “
“Change here is omnipresent. To start with, there is Home for Innovation, with numerous initiatives building bridges between the bank and the outside world. There is a true willingness, inside the bank, to adapt to new technologies and the world of tomorrow. “
A question of agility?
“BNP Paribas Fortis is obviously a big organization, quite complex, that will have to collaborate with smaller companies, such as ‘Fintechs’. Our big challenge is to move as fast as our environment. The Agile method may be a big help, and I look forward to contribute to its deployment.”
“Of course it is not easy to adapt quickly to its environment, and keep its status as market leader at the same time. A balance needs to be found and kept.”
“In any case, I am already drooling over my third assignment within a brand-new team: Innovative Payments. We will be focusing on new payment methods and new technologies such as Instant Payment and Blockchain. I’m starting my career at an historical turning point for the financial world. It is fascinating!”
